Harvest festivals happen in September and October when wine grapes reach peak ripeness and winemakers begin crush — the pressing of grapes into juice. These events are held at the vineyards themselves, giving attendees rare access to working cellars, barrel rooms, and estate grounds. Activities beyond tasting include grape stomps, vineyard tours, harvest dinners under the vines, and discussions with winemakers about the current vintage. The setting and seasonal timing make harvest festivals the most atmospheric of all wine event types. If you attend only one wine festival per year, harvest season is when to go.
